Elsinore: Push/Pull

A swapped-out rhythm section hasn’t changed Elsinore’s sound much. Push/Pull still features Ryan Groff’s melodic, sometimes theatrical take on indie rock. Indie veteran producer Beau Sorenson adds a bit more crispness and punch to the proceedings. But this is sometimes at odds with Groff’s soaring, emotive voice. Much like Elsinore’s previous efforts, Push/Pull aims for a sweeping, theatrical sound. Too often, though, it falls back on a more traditional, somewhat tired slow-fast dynamic. The songs are well-constructed, well-played and well-produced, but somehow fall just short nonetheless.
