Teeko & B. Bravo: Tempo Dreams Vol. 2

DJ Hip Hop Funk

Teeko and B.Bravo are two well-known DJs who take hip hop to modern funk through the turntables. On their latest release, the duo feature the works of new artists like Starship Connection, Rojai & E. Live, and Bayonics. The music can have a slow, syrupy vibe and then bounce into something fresh with a beat.

Many of the cuts border on the surreal, such as Mugpush featuring Black Spade’s “Came Too Far” that goes from personal narrative to interior monologue as the vocals become stretched like Silly Putty and the measured pulse gets lost into something strange. This makes a certain amount of sense for an album called Tempo Dreams as the shifting cadences lie at the heart of the auteur’s sensibilities. The swells and fades create pleasant enough ambiances, but the Morpheus-like rhythms may leave one in a trance. For listeners in the right mood, the slowing of the clock will bless them with bliss.
