It’s one of the best albums of the `80s and one of the most-loved ever—and now, to celebrate its 20th anniversary, it’s finally getting an overhauling. U2’s “The Joshua Tree” arrives Nov. 20 in nothing less than four new versions—single-disc, double-disc, three-disc box set and double-vinyl (180 gram, of course).

The standard edition features remastered sound, liner notes by Bill Flanagan (author of “U2 at the End of the World”) and previously unseen photos from longtime U2 lenser Anton Corbijn. (The vinyl is the same spread across four sides tucked into a gatefold sleeve.) The 2-CD job adds a bonus disc of B-sides and rarities from the “Joshua Tree” sessions (track listing after the jump), along with a 36-page book that, in addition Flanagan’s writing, adds an essay from the Edge and handwritten lyrics by Bono.

The box set (the ultimate incarnation) expands the book to an embossed hardback 56 pages (adding memories from Adam Clayton, producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois and more) and includes everything else plus a stuffed DVD highlighted by “U2 Live from Paris,” captured at the Hippodrome de Vincennes on July 4, 1987. Also featured: the 40-minute documentary “Outside It’s America,” an alternate version of the “With or Without You” video and a Neil Jordan-directed clip for “Red Hill Mining Town.” (Why all the other vids associated with this album have been left off kinda baffles me, though.)
