NYC bad boys miss the mark on its new EP.
Hailing from New York City, the Compulsions aim for the effortless sleaze of the Stones or the Dolls, landing unfortunately somewhere in Buckcherry territory. Song titles like "Rock 'N' Roll Johnny" and "Jungle Disease" reveal the band's old-fashioned rock aesthetic, and "Nasty Bitch" regrettably reveals its pigheaded misogyny. Overall, the riffs are a bit too derivative, and the production a bit too crisp to make this a compelling listen. The guys in the band may eventually be capable of something better, but after six aimless minutes of something called "Davy Jones' Locker", it's a bit too difficult to give the Compulsions the benefit of the doubt.
