The Leftovers build momentum by channeling the carefree attitudes of its influences.
It appears the beauty of classic records by the likes of the Ramones and the Beach Boys isn’t lost on the Leftovers, whose fourth full-length Eager to Please features the Portland, Maine trio whipping up a frenzy of light-hearted yet snappy numbers that find the 14-track disc flying by before you can yell, "Gabba Gabba Hey!" Held afloat by massively infectious singles "Telephone Operator" and "Dance With Me", the release has a tangible groove that lends itself to simpler times when soaring guitar solos were only meant to complement lyrics about lost loves. Essentially, Eager to Please lacks any and all pretense, and seeing as the Leftovers have built a career on providing uncomplicated beach-rock, such as "Untouchable", how could it not? Here’s hoping the band keeps it up.
