Is Lady GaGa the Right Choice to Record the Next James Bond Title Theme? (videos)

According to UK tabloid The Sun, Lady GaGa is in the running to compose and perform the next James Bond theme. The as yet-unnamed film is due to hit theaters in 2011.

Whether the garish songstress makes the final cut remains to be seen, but if so, she'll join an elite roster of past performers including Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, Chris Cornell, Carly Simon, Tina Turner, Tom Jones and Lady GaGa's personal heroine, Madonna.

Fans of the film series have long squabbled over which songs were the best and worst, with the Jack White/Alicia Keys duet "Another Way to Die" from the most recent Bond flick Quantum of Solace as divisive as any since Dr. No hit theaters in 1962. Given Lady GaGa's notoriety, it's not unreasonable to anticipate the next theme might spark even more debate.

Also tipped in the Sun article are schmaltzy crooner Michael Bublé and Amy Winehouse, who reportedly snorted her way out of the running for the last film.

Below is a handful of past Bond tunes from YouTube, as well as My Bloody Valentine's cover of Louis Armstrong's "We Have All the Time in the World", from On Her Majesty's Secret Service. You be the judge on whether they were up to snuff, and whether Lady GaGa is ideally suited to follow in their footsteps.
