Project Trio are a self-described "high energy chamber music ensemble" consisting of flute, cello, and bass. It would be a stretch to call their music classical, though. The group spends the first few songs on their latest album constructing vamps around some rather stifling, cyclical forms that afford them the uncomfortable luxury to dabble in rhythmic plasticity. The ode to urban decay "City of Dreams" feels even less convincing, and a Guns N' Roses cover ("Sweet Child O' Mine") comes across as nothing more than flirtation with novelty. More earnest and natural moments like the original "3 Movie Scenes" and a faithful rendition of Dave Brubeck's "Blue Rondo a la Turk" help portray Project Trio in a more auspicious light.
