Under the guise of Seven Saturdays, Los Angeles musician/composer/songwriter Jonathan D. Haskell showcases his stunning arrangement skills across five sublime passages on his one-man outfit’s debut EP. Word has it that Haskell dreamt up these compositions whilst imbibing on scotch and strolling down a cobblestone street in Edinburgh, Scotland. But the location of inspiration appears to bear no fruit upon the actual sonic outcome of these five tracks, which come across as a perfect LA blend of Angelo Badalamenti-styled Mulholland Drive cool and the experimental quirk of Jon Brion’s orchestral score work, conjured up with the help of a gang of prolific musicians whose collective resume includes tenures with the likes of David Bowie, M83, Verbena, Smashing Pumpkins, and the Pretenders, among others. If David Lynch is looking for a new collaborator to soundtrack his next film, somebody should text him the contact info of Jonathan D. Haskell.
