It’s kind of strange to listen to the voice of one-time UK trip-hop chanteuse Lou Rhodes without her fellow partner in Lamb, Andy Barlow, and his static boom-bap throbbing in the background. But Lou seems to truly feel comfortable in her modern-day role as a girlie singer-songwriter type with a jones for classic Nick Drake. So much so that not even the return of Mr. Barlow into her creative fold as the co-producer of her third solo album (and debut release on her pals Cinematic Orchestra’s new label Motion Audio) could deter her march to Lilith Fair immortality. Thus, chances are that if you weren’t too hot on Lou’s shift from electro to acoustic over the course of her three-LP solo trajectory, your best bet would be stick to your faithful copy of Fear of Fours and remember the good times.
