As the groundbreaking guitarist for such outsider metal icons as Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, and Secret Chiefs 3, Trey “Scummy” Spruance is no stranger to thinking outside of the box. So it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to see a band as envelope-pushing as Philadelphia grindcore mavens Cleric signed to his heralded boutique label Mimicry Records. And, as their full-length debut so righteously signifies, these guys are unrelenting in their aspirations to spill the doom metal blood all over Brian Eno’s Green World, a feat they succeed at quite excellently across this ten-song, 76-minute epic of an album.
