In what seems to be a way to buy some time between albums, the remix project has become the obligatory diversion for dance-oriented bands. Like clockwork, Brooklyn-based dance-punks !!! (Chk Chk Chk) have followed up the recently released full-length record Strange Weather, Isn’t It? with the remix EP Jamie, My Intentions Are Bass. Weirdly, though, the project doesn’t kick off with a remixed cut but with the album version of the song “Jamie, My Intentions Are Bass”, and even though the EP contains a mere 6 tracks, Strange Weather songs “Hammer” and “The Most Certain” both get two remixes, with former A.R.E. Weapons member Thomas Bullock and Australian DJ duo Canyons mixing up the former, and DFA producer Liv Spencer and !!!’s fellow Warp Records labelmate Bibio taking on the latter. Remix don Tim Goldsworthy takes the blue ribbon for best in show, rendering the funk-laced “Steady As the Sidewalk Cracks” into a tribal percussion carnival. Nothing is awful here, indeed most of it is at least moderately enjoyable, but like most of these things, it’s ultimately forgettable.
