Lord Huron: Mighty/Into the Sun

Lord Huron

LA-based Michigan transplant Lord Huron is a chamber-poppish outfit which has reissued its two previous EPs in one handy package. Utilizing a sonic palette that incorporates everything from steel drums (“Mighty”) to sitar (“We Went Wild”), the band takes an eclectic approach to its high-energy but never abrasive material. With several songs clocking in at five minutes or more, tunes have time to grow and develop, typically incorporating several mini-movements or transitional sections. “The Stranger” is built around a bed of warm guitar and thrumming percussion, with reverb-affected vocals mixed well down into the stew, as the band seems to prefer. This is low-key, sunny-day music, easy on the ears but layered enough to be engaging. Looking for anger, angst or attitude? Look elsewhere.
