Electro-house is hardly known for its cohesive and conceptual LP-length statements on the human condition, but this fourth effort from crowd-pleasing Italian DJ and producer Benny Benassi is, even by those limited standards, shallower than a bead of Euro-club sweat. Chris Brown, T-Pain, apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas and British singer Gary Go make guest appearances, but Benassi treats them to a brand of pop-house which is so generic that these stars’ performances could have been recorded by virtually anybody. So desperate are the publicity men to find a way to sell Electroman that critics’ tepid “praise” of this aspect of the record is actually quoted in the press release.
The best response to this tired and jaded exercise is hinted at in “My House”. “’Cause this is my house”, Jean-Baptiste sings in yet another guest vocal, “so let’s burn it down.” Electroman is Benny Benassi’s “house”, so let’s avoid it like the plague.
