Beady Eye: iTunes Festival: London 2011 EP

An exhausted-sounding Liam Gallagher leads his bandmates through otherwise enjoyable live renditions of four songs from Different Gear, Still Speeding.

Liam Gallagher and his former Oasis bandmates Gem Archer, Andy Bell, and Chris Sharrock have the makings of a solid, if not spectacular, rock 'n' roll outfit in Beady Eye. But on their latest release, the iTunes Festival: London 2011 EP, the band seems to be plodding through four of their debut album's stronger tunes. Archer, Bell, and Sharrock play more than adequately, but Gallagher sounds tired, vocally shot, and near-unintelligible throughout. On "Three Ring Circus", he seems barely able to sustain notes in the chorus, a far cry from the bright, Lennon-esque sneer he's known for. It's hard to say who this EP is meant for; considering Gallagher's rough voice and the lack of any major deviations from the studio versions, you're better off just listening to Different Gear, Still Speeding, whether you're a fan or a first-time listener.
