Poor Boy’s Soul: Burn Down

Poor Boy’s Soul’s brand of raucous roots music is not music to be taken lightly. Stompin’ and shoutin’ with plenty of good time hill country influences and informed by the Trever Jones’ deft guitar work and uncommonly good voice, this half-hour slab o’ soul doesn’t have time to even think about wearing out its welcome. Hip and hypnotic, the first two tracks, “Burn Down” and “Movin’ To The City”, make the case for the hype. “54 Ways” and the closing “Annalisa” live up to the promise established in those opening moments. Moreover, Jones proves that he’s no one-trick pony. He has three or four more up his sleeve on Burn Down than the average purveyor of this bratty, brawling brand of blues.
