Scraps: Classic Shits

Just because something is minimalist doesn’t make it any less effective. Sounding like she could have found a home quite nicely on the Juno soundtrack, Laura Hill, playing under the Scraps moniker lets her minimalist flag fly on Classic Shits. Between the quirky bedroom pop and haunting keyboard driven melodies, it’s a shame that Hill has only a small following.

It may not be a loud listen, but the honesty which Hill maintains throughout the record speaks volumes. “Love Letter” borrows heavily from Kimya Dawson, though Hill’s charming voice finds its own clever tone on other tracks. This is the kind of record that one could curl up beside on a cold night and feel much, much warmer.
