On Fear Nothing, Beverly McClellan dabbles in soul, blues, country, and funk, and she has the talent to sing well in all those genres. Throughout the album, the songwriting is competent, but the vocals are the strong point, with the guitars and pianos fitting in nicely. McClellan handles both faster tunes and slower ballads well, and while she does not explore any new territory, she holds her own. “Ain’t Me” is a funky highlight, while “Come To Me” takes the form of a classic R&B ballad, built around a guitar riff that slowly rises and falls. With the addition of a horn section, a tighter focus on the soul material that really lets her voice shine through, and some stronger songs that push a little harder, McClellan could be a force to be reckoned with.
