For no one.
If Mike + The Mechanics, the pop machine project from Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford, had been founded in Columbus, Ohio, sometime in the last five years, it might have sounded something like this -- frigid textures, pristine but unremarkable vocals/lyrics and the sense that the music is meant at once for everyone and no one. It’s not that the band is incompetent -- far from it -- but rather that it hasn’t found a convincing voice just yet. Perhaps this is music best suited for long cul-de-sac make-out sessions at the end of the summer before your sophomore year and not much else. Shrug.
