PT Walkley can claim songs that have appeared in both scotch adds and on Sesame Street. Listening to “The Way That You Are”, the point of entry on this 10-track release, you understand. There’s something childlike about the sparseness of the tracks, about the energy the sometime Edward Burns collaborator brings with him via “Go Away”, “The Purpose of a Skunk”, and “I’m a Snob”. There’s also something subversive enough to make all that innocence seem ever so slightly less so, via “The Marriage of Mice”, and “If I Were British (Sing Along)”. There are moments, in early listens, when the songs seem to blend together a little too easily, but repeated visits allow the individual character of each to shine through.
