Bushman’s Revenge: A Little Bit of Big Bonanza

More than a few young lads have tried to find that link between the stone free ways of Hendrix, the psychedelic yawp of Blue Cheer, and the chops of the Mothers of Invention, but oh-so-many have failed. Not Bushman’s Revenge. The compositions are solid, adventurous, and as tightly woven as a Norwegian sweater. The group’s sense of dynamics are impeccable, as evidenced by “John Lennon Was the Greatest Man Who Ever Lived’s” juxtaposition with “Iron Bloke” and “Jeg Baker Kokosboller”. The trio even works up a cover of the mighty Sonny Sharrock’s “As We Used to Sing”. Better than most of the current batch of post rock and far more interesting than half the contemporary jazz outfits trying to reinvent what doesn’t need reinvention as much as it needs reinvigoration.
