Theresa Andersson’s New Single and Album Is a Tribute to New Orleans

Soulful Swedish singer and instrumentalist Theresa Andersson migrated to the US in 1990, and found herself in bustling New Orleans, where she originally intended to play violin with fellow musician Anders Osborne. Though that partnership didn’t work out, Andersson remained in the Big Easy and, now over 20 years later, officially calls it home. Andersson is known for her inventive live shows, but she’ also released several recordings with Basin Street Records, including 2008’s Hummingbird, Go!. She returns to the label with her newest effort: Street Parade. The album, due out April 24, acts as a sort of homage to the great city of New Orleans.

The music video for single “Hold on to Me”, featured below, was filmed during Mardi Gras, the perfect background for Andersson’s haunting vocals, which softly underscore images of the lush and exciting celebration. The vocals build in correlation with the visuals, and emphasize the drama of the festivities; especially the moment when the singer rides in on a giant bird float, which was designed by sculpture Jacques Dufforc and executed by celebrated puppeteer Arthur Mintz. At points the crowd can be heard screaming with delight, which only adds to the celebratory vibe of the song and of the exciting action the video depicts.
