It’s not often one gets a chance to review an album with a song entitled “Subtle as a Shithouse”, but from the moment I saw that on the track list of El Doom & The Born Electric’s self-titled debut, I knew I was going to be in for an interesting ride. Sadly, however, by the time the album’s had concluded, I was surprisingly underwhelmed. Sure, all the musicians are technically impressive, but none of these seven songs manage to rise above the level of jam fare. The band is at least honest about its straightforward prog intentions, but that doesn’t make it any more interesting. In their own parlance, this record is “Subtle as a Shithouse”.
