The name might lessen the mystery, but it certainly builds the suspense.
Carla Patullo, the woman behind White Widow, makes use of her fascination with psychological thrillers via this concept piece, which tells the story of a relationship careening to its end. The cinematic scope of the music is unsurprising and, if the production occasionally obscures the true strengths and weaknesses of the compositions, the sheer ambition and achievement of the project remain admirable. The rocking “Trophy Girl” and the dark, unnerving and stately “Bloodbath” are among the record’s highlights. A short animated film is forthcoming and will be featured during the Austin-based artist’s life performances. Worth your time and attention as a standalone record, but methinks that the impact will be heightened in concert with the film.
