David Gould and Caroline Schutz have been married for a few years now, both in real life and musically. Wild their third full-length effort finds them finding their potential and earning every last scrap of acclaim that’s come their way since conception. Opening with the shuffling and shimmering title track, Wild never once loses its pace. What’s made this duo stand out for so long is their ability to create genre-defying songs that still manage to be insanely accessible. There’s traces of everything from pop to shoegaze to americana and it all combines into something that seems gloriously universal. Anchoring a lot of these songs is Caroline Schutz’s vocals, which simultaneously recall Kathleen Edwards and Bird of Youth’s Beth Wawerna. They’re the perfect accompaniment to these songs as each flies by. All of Wild is a delight but there’s still more ground to be covered before the band’s inevitable classic.
