RØSENKØPF: RØSENKØPF

RØSENKØPF may very well be the most unique listening experience I’ve had all year. There’s high-end hardcore style vocals screamed out over avant-noise guitars, while both are held down by an insistent EDM beat that pulsates and rattles with the best of them. The fact that everything somehow clicks together is a little bit insane, like much of the record. It’s an incredibly jarring listening experience that could accurately be defined as “an experience.” For how much RØSENKØPF attempts, the ratio of what succeeds to what doesn’t is staggeringly positive. Holding tight to the “everyone for themselves” Birthday Party-style mentality with hints of ambient post-rock, this thing comes charging out of the gate and crushes anything stupid enough to get in the way. A truly weird and surprisingly good full-length.
