Parlovr put a lot into making Kook Soul, even to the extent of spending months tracking down the painting that graces the album's cover. They religiously referenced the Flaming Lips' Soft Bulletin and old '50s records. Their patience, research and devotion to Kook Soul shines through on every brilliant track. Running the gamut from early Tokyo Police Club lo-fi post-punk ragers to gloriously expansive pop tracks in the vein of Young Man's Vol. 1. Everything on Kook Soul is an absolute joy to listen to. Each song blends artfully into the next and though the band tinkers with different formulas, they all fit the same aesthetic, giving Kook Soul the benefit of feeling completely complete.
