Kalle Mattson: Lives in Between EP

Kalle Mattson’s closest kin vocally is the Decemberists’ Colin Meloy. His label is called Parliament of Trees. From these facts we may reasonably infer that Lives in Between EP is a through-and-through indie affair. This inference then becomes fact after a minute into “Someday”, the lovely acoustic opener to this five-song set. Fortunately, this EP is a brief one, as there’s little on here to differentiate Mattson from the litany of “Dylan-influenced” (his words, not mine) songwriters with a penchant for quirky instrumentation, like the plucky glockenspiel on “Sun is Gone”. But, hey, this is free, so if you’re looking for a couple of friendly indie tracks to augment your summer playlist, you won’t do any harm in downloading it.
