Terrific Doc ‘You’ve Been Trumped’ at Angelika on 3 August

“What would you say to the many local residents here, who feel that you’ve run roughshod over planning legislation and environmental issues simply because you’ve got lots of money?” Hand it to Anthony Baxter, who makes the most of his limited moments with Donald Trump: he has no fear of the Donald. He asks his queston — and gets no good answer — on the occasion of Trump’s visit to Scotland’s Aberdeenshire coast, where, he declares, he means to construct “the world’s greatest golf course” here, in the “birthplace of golf”. As Trump speaks, the wind blows his hair.

The controversy over the $1.2 billion, 1200-acre course is the focus of Baxter’s terrific You’ve Been Trumped, opening at the Angelika in New York City on 3 August, to be followed by a Q&A with Baxter. As a legal battle develops, the filmmaker visits with locals, attends community meetings, and tries a time or two to speak with authorities who appear to be acting on Trump’s behalf. In its broadest sense, this story of an international corporation imposing its will on a local community is familiar. But the film takes a turn when Baxter is arrested by local policemen.
