Now here's a meeting of the minds guaranteed to garner no commercial acclaim. Polish composer Zbigniew Karkowski uses his computer to manipulate the cello sounds of Zeitkratzer member Anton Lukoszevieze, resulting in the 37-minute-plus track Nerve Cell_0. If you listen to this at a low volume on your computer while you're checking email, it just sounds like an annoying buzz saw. If you don't hear it through headphones, you're missing out.

You'll find that this big, noisy monster has a beginning, middle and end with plenty of tension and falling action in between. The start sounds mostly like unaltered cello and from there I get the impression that Karkowski's computer is doing a bulk of the work. At others times, it sounds like Karkowski and Lukoszevieze are acting independently. But with Nerve Cell_0, you just can't tell. But that's how we like our avant-garde: cloudy with a chance of envelopment.
