EP 1 traffics mostly in promise. I say hold out for EP 2 before assessing.
Mute label up-and-comers Diamond Version are an electronic duo currently in possession of capability and promise. To cast their debut EP aside because it doesn't get to the heart and soul of their brand of club-teased sequencing might be too premature. EP 1 is just the start of their road, so the lightly prosaic feeling it leaves behind is excusable. All things considered, it's not a bad slice of instrumental electro-pop. "Technology At the Speed of Life", though repetitive, is nice and brisk as it glides over three low tones. Both mixes of "Empowering Change" are more nuanced in the rhythm department while managing to be more vague when it comes to everything else. There are no heavy hitters in these 17 minutes, but EP 1 is only the beginning.
