On her first LP, Colleen Green doesn’t make a huge leap forward from the cassette and CD-R songs on which she built most of her buzz. Sock It to Me is a decidedly modest affair, relying on tinny drum machines and Green’s fuzzy guitar. In some ways, it’s the perfect avenue for Green’s songs, all of which follow the same somewhat sloppy pattern. Green’s stories about boys she likes and doesn’t like are slightly more charming than the doe-eyed stoner babble that Best Coast peddles, but she doesn’t tackle her well-worn subject with a unique perspective, nor is there anything gripping about the music. Sock It to Me isn’t an unpleasant experience, but Green’s only doing things that have been done before and more skillfully.
