Franz Ferdinand – “Right Action” / “Love Illumination” #2 (videos)

In other words, “Right Action” / “Love Illumination”, the new double A-side from Scottish dance-rockers Franz Ferdinand, doesn’t meet the gold standard of past singles like “Take Me Out”, “The Dark of the Matinee”, “Do You Want To”, and “Ulysses”. While both songs offer serviceable charms (i.e., tight hooks, perky choruses, etc.), neither is all that memorable or inspired. Neither deserves this pride of place. Naturally, it raises questions about the group’s forthcoming album, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action (26 Aug / 27 Aug): Is this really the cream of the crop? Has the Franz formula runs its course? I’m sincerely hoping for a pair of noes, but the tame mediocrity of “Right Action” / “Love Illumination” doesn’t bode well.
