Who knew? Famed punk photographer and videographer David Markey made some raw and rough punk recordings throughout the ’80s and ’90s, and this is the cream of that crop featured in Volume Infinite. Historically speaking, right on. Markey is an inspired drummer, and with friends helping out like, say, Thurston Moore and Mike Watt, there plenty of argument for this material to be released. From a listening standpoint, history is just about its only real saving grace. Well, a couple of Blue Öyster Cult covers from the first album were pretty interesting, and the Super Session’s “Garden Party” was by far the best moment. Hilarious. Most of this stuff is just demos and ideas, which does show some innovation, but not much.
