Dave Stewart - "Lucky Numbers" (video) (PopMatters Premiere)

Today we bring you the final installment of Dave Stewart's lyric videos for his new album Lucky Numbers.

It only makes sense to conclude the series with the title track of the album, a tune that's gently funky and super catchy. What really makes all of these songs work so well is Stewart's understated approach. Young artists throw everything they have against a wall and hope the combo sticks (i.e. Oasis). When it does, it's brilliant, sometimes the best work of their careers, but when it fails... watch out. Musicians who have been on the professional circuit for many years often reach the point where they understand that less really is more: instrumental passages become more pointed and spare, lyrics more direct, and arrangements become really clean with not a single unnecessary passage. Dave Stewart has reached this level and his music is the best it's ever been.
