Paul Conrad - "Heresy Baby" (stream) (Premiere)

Australian singer-songwriter Paul Conrad constructs a full sound drawing from indie and classic rock, topped with a Thom Yorke-esque voice.

"Heresy Baby" is loaded with hooks and heart, while the intrumentation rises to orchestral pop levels and the lyrics feel as right and natural as drinking lemonade in the summertime. Paul Conrad is a songwriter to watch with a very bright future ahead of him. He grew up listening to Roy Orbison and you can hear that in his soaring and sincere vocals.

Conrad explains, “Music is still one of the only things in this world that makes any sense in my head. To hear Roy Orbison, whose life was comprised of one tragedy after another - before he ultimately died - sing and perform as beautifully and charismatically as he always did, gave me hope for myself and everyone in this world.”

Meanwhile, he also tells us about his meticulous approach to songwriting: “If you want to be a goddamn beatnik, have at it, but it takes a fragile and delicate combination of sounds and words to create music.”
