Brokeback – “Tonight at Ten/Tonight at Eleven” (video) (Premiere)

Dusting off the Brokeback moniker after a ten-year hiatus between recordings, Douglas McCombs and company returned earlier in 2013 with Brokeback and the Black Rock, an album PopMatters‘ John Garratt describes as “boiled down Brokeback, built for easy travel.” Built on a foundation of lush, evocative instrumentation and intuitive interplay, Black Rock captures what’s most organic about the post-rock genre that McCombs helped to define with Tortoise. Premiering on PopMatters, the video for album tracks “Tonight at Ten” and “Tonight at Eleven” conveys just that kind of feel, as the group’s Latin inflected guitars soundtrack understatedly romantic vignettes.

Brokeback and the Black Rock is out now via Thrill Jockey; Brokeback will be touring Europe in November.
