Stükenberg - 'Novella' (album stream) (Premiere)
Austin-based Americana/rock outfit Stükenberg is set to release its third captivating album, Novella, on November 12th.
With a sound characterized by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist frontman David Stükenberg as Appalachian-Rock, Novella finds inspiration in early Fleetwood Mac's eerie backwoods melodies and the distorted, almost-Pentecostal energy of a church service led by Rage Against the Machine. Novella's wildly lush narratives and darkly driven tunes immediately grab your attention and simply refuse to let go. This exciting new project was made possible by fans through a successful Kickstarter campaign.
Stükenberg tells us about his new work: "Novella is, by far, my favorite creation, yet. It started as a 34-track score for a short novel, which in itself was a fun and uniquely collaborative process. The final album you have before you is 13 of our favorite songs from that initial work. Tracking them may have taken longer than expected, but I think it definitely ended up being for the better. Also, I got some quality bonding time with the team involved in making this record. In close quarters for those amounts of time and chaos, you wouldn't believe the stories I have accumulated! Even though the adjoining novel never saw completion, I'm really glad it started me on the path to Novella. This album is different from anything I've released before. It's been coined as Appalachian-Rock, paying homage to the mountainous, backwoods sounding elements, like banjo and mandolin, that drive a lot of the songs. But, it's still very much a rock record, which is something I've been wanting to do for a long time. Novella begins to work in the direction of a sound that I hope to develop into my own. I can't wait for everyone to hear it."
