“I want you…in the worst way”. Crikey is it hot in here? Yup, Zoë Kravitz may be Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet’s daughter but with her band Lolawolf she sounds more like the progeny of a ‘Lust in Lace: Battle of the Saucepots’ coupling between Prince and Madonna circa 1985. This slick, ‘First date and forget me not’ EP is literally dripping with the promise of midnight shenanigans and ye olde “23 positions in a one night stand”. The sparse, simmering synths of “Drive (Los Angeles)” are perfect for lingering stares, beestung lips, steamy windows and sweaty summer nights in the Hollywood hills whilst the breathlessly seductive stomp of “Too Lovely” paces and prowls with feverish ache. “Don’t make it too lovely” it warns. Kravitz’s sassy personality lifts the lightly funky Europop of weakest link “What Love Is” (“I really hope it’s not you”) before the champagne fizzy “Chainz” and the narcotic, ménage à trois blur of “Wanna Have Fun” leave you hungry for more. Three cheers for good ol’ fashioned, classy filth.
