Peter MacLeod tells us on the first track that “We all shine on” and named his album Rolling Stone which should clue you in to this is Britpop. In many ways, this record could have come out circa 1965 even though there are echoes of Oasis, Blur, the Verve, Pulp, and others with similar roots on this disc full of big guitar and pop hooks. The Scottish lad puts his influences on his sleeve, right next to his heart, and if you share his same loves you will find much to savor. That’s just as true of the hidden bonus track played backwards after 20 some minutes of silence at the end of the disc. Even in reverse, the jangly guitars and snappy beat come off as playful and fun. Macleod can be serious, such as when he sings about death on “The Other Side (Part 1)”, but he’s best when crooning about love, dreams, and the other pleasantries of everyday living.
