Careful – “The World Doesn’t End (Part II)” (stream) (Premiere)

Careful's "The World Doesn't End (Part II)" masquerades as a lo-fi pop tune before it fully emerges as a haunting chamber pop piece.

Eric Lindley (a.k.a. Careful) is releasing his fourth full-length album, The World Doesn’t End, on April 22nd via Circle Into Square. With a background in LA’s subculture of electronics hackers and experimental artists, Lindley has immersed himself in the theories of artistic creation. The result is a pleasingly intellectual approach to creating music that satisfies the head and the heart in equal measures.

Of “The World Doesn’t End (Part II)” Lindley says, “This song is more or less the centerpiece of the album, even though it’s meant to feel more spare than the others and even a little clumsy. There’s a lot of narrative in here, and whether I actually achieved it or not, I tried to get to get the feeling of two people talking to each other from different worlds. Less like ‘Somewhere Out There’ and more like the ghost of a friend or lover singing along with someone playing music alone in his room: sing-songy, taunting melodies wrapped around kind of brutal events.”
