Scotland's boy-wonder gets all chest-beating and angst-filled.
It seems a tad unfair to describe this EP as twangy and angst-y but on a second listen, such also seems entirely apt. Nutini's new album (which this is designed to promote and from which each of the five tracks have been taken) sees him raging against some inner turmoil and everything here, although it may sound a little thin to begin with, most definitely comes from the heart.
Thin, yes, but crispy and definitely tasty. Maybe this is why Nutini has found such a ready audience -- he forgoes innovation and all its fancy trimmings and instead speaks simply to you about your life. These songs are straightforward and tuneful and flow together very easily. The title track, in particular, positively burns its way on the synapses with emotional fire, punch and ennui. But it has to be asked: why are there so many tracks here that are already on the full-length album?
