Portland, Oregon's Shook Twins are a folk sextet built around the voices, guitar and banjo of identical twins Katelyn and Laurie Shook. Primarily acoustic instrumentation is buttressed with bits of electric guitar and bass to a create well-balanced stew of sunny sounds. Opener “Thoughts All In” is upbeat, summery music in the best possible way, while follow-up track “What We Do” builds layers atop a snaky rhythm that will have listeners dancing around their organic garden.

Later highlights include the stomping “Shake” and the gentle, banjo-driven “Crisper”. Not every tune is a knockout, but the band's chops remain consistent throughout, and there are plenty of strong moments even on the Kickstarter-funded album's less memorable songs. It's well worth a listen, especially for fans of acoustic music and Americana’s many little-known backwaters.
