Wartime Recitals – ‘Wartime Recitals EP’ (audio) (Premiere)

Having already caught attention in their native Los Angeles for their charming, baroque pop-esque sound, Wartime Recitals are bound to go to bigger and better places now with the release of their self-titled debut EP, which you can stream below. From the beautiful piano parts of “Bad Dances” and “Short Hair” to the delicate vocal harmonies of “Ribbons”, Wartime Recitals displays a kind of joyous spirit that makes it an effortless listening experience.

The band says to PopMatters about the EP, “After months of hard work, we couldn’t be more excited to share our new EP! On this record, we decided to scale back the brass and string instrumentation from our first singles (‘Hold Your Velocity’ and Lark!’), and leave it to our core instruments. Our EP came together with multiple weeknights and weekends spent in our bassist’s den in Long Beach, CA and a couple recording sessions at Kingsize Soundlabs near Eagle Rock, CA. Lyrically, we try to scale the stories and themes to match the heart of each arrangement, taking cues from some of our favorite narrative based songwriters.”
