Split/Red – “Road to Aguilares (for Rutilio Grande)” (video) (Premiere)

The latest tune by the Philadelphia rock outfit Split/Red, "Road to Aguilares (for Rutilio Grande)", is dedicated to El Salvadorian liberation theologian Rutilio Grande.

Just last week, the Philadelphia rock group Split/Red dropped its newest LP, Serious Heft. The title is no joke; full to the brim with heavy guitar riffs and an eccentric songwriting approach not unlike the Mars Volta, the album grabs the listener by the throat and doesn’t let go.

This is aided in large part by the lyrical themes and inspiration for the music. Ed Ricart of New Atlantis Records explains, “Serious Heft was mostly composed during various trips to El Salvador. Inspired by the witness of heroic liberation theologians and freedom fighters, the record is informed by domestic oppression, injustice, and cultural repression. Fittingly, the medium here is punk rock that is unfiltered and untarnished by mainstream contrivances and compromises.”

Below you can watch the video for “Road to Aguilares (for Rutilio Grande)”, a track dedicated to the El Salvadorian liberation theologian Rutilio Grande.

Serious Heft is out now via New Atlantis.
