RONiiA (pronounced Row-nee-a) is an eclectic conglomeration of artists. Comprised of Nona Marie Invie (Dark Dark Dark, FUGITIVE), Mark McGee (Father You See Queen, Marijuana Deathsquads) and Fletcher Barnhill (Joint Custody, FUGITIVE), RONiiA brings together the group’s wide span of influences, spanning dark folk to subtly catchy synth pop. The trio’s self-titled debut is out today; you can stream the entire LP below.
The band says to PopMatters about its new album, “I got the idea for the band name from the Astrid Lindren book Ronia the Robber’s Daughter. It’s a story about a young girl, the daughter of a viking robber who will someday become the leader of a band of robbers. Every summer she has to go out into the woods alone and fend for herself. It’s a really beautiful story about independence and exploring your own relationship with the natural world. I wanted to make a record that embodies the spirit of Ronia, being a wild free thing in nature.”
RONiiA is out today via TGNP.
