First Aid Kit has had a busy and successful 2014, touring hard behind its third album, Stay Gold. To mark Record Store Day/Black Friday, the duo released a cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “America”. Covers of well-known songs can be difficult, but here First Aid Kit give the song a new, feminine interpretation.
The video shows the Swedish Söderberg sisters travelling around the country they are (beautifully) singing about. Grainy and swirling, the viewer gets a glimpse of a tough life out on the road and an insight into the band’s melodic influences.
Stay Gold, which is PopMatters‘ 30th best album of the year, is out now on Columbia.
