“White Noise” represents a sonic step forward from the East Los Angeles duo Howls, comprised of Annalee Fery and Christian Stone. Whereas their self-titled debut from last year juxtaposed driving guitar rock with intense electronica, this new single strips away most of the former element, instead focusing on the pulsating electronics that bring to mind groups like CHVRCHES. This small but important sonic shift is owed in part to the duo’s first outside producer, Jon Siebels.

Lead vocalist Annalee Ferris tells PopMatters more about the ideas behind the video: “Fortunately my mother raised me to have one of those pathetic hearts. The moment I see someone who’s hurting, especially kids, my heart breaks. This song is about any and all kids who are hurting and somehow forced into situations that are never suitable for kids. I think everyone should always be aware of this and learn to help by not looking the other way. Having kids myself has taught me as well to care for every lost and hurting child. If I could save them all, I would. For the video we wanted to paint a picture of a kid down on her luck. Joseph Viles, (director) has an awesome way of shooting scenes that to me are so beautiful.”
