Oakland, California's own Waterstrider had three days to record a tune for a new compilation by OIM Records. The catchy "Frayed" is what they came up with.
With their tune "Frayed", the Oakland, CA group Waterstrider had a task. The tune, which is featured on a compilation LP by the new label OIM Records, was recorded in label co-owner Jeff Saltzman's studio, where they only had three days to finish recording. You could hardly tell the time constraints from the sound of "Frayed", however; with its hum along-able vocals and its catchy rhythm, the song becomes all the more impressive given its limited timeframe of creation.
Vocalist and guitarist Nate Salman tells PopMatters, "'Frayed' came from an experience of pure bliss and confusion bundled together: the un-satisfaction of temporary romance, and the struggle to maintain sanity in the midst of a magical moment. It captures a desire to learn from and accept a passing moment, despite a longing to make it last forever."
OIM Records' Vol. 1 compilation will be released in late June.
