The Chandler Travis Three-O - "Air, Running Backwards" (audio) (Premiere)
Chandler Travis takes one of his classic tunes and radically re-interprets it for his latest compilation, which captures his friendship with fellow songsmith David Greenberger.
With the compilation LP Bocce & Bourbon: The Comfortable Songs of Chandler Travis & David Greenberger, the two eponymous songwriters look back at a life's legacy of making music, both together and with their many side projects. Travis alone has an almost impossible amount of bands he's involved in addition to his solo career, including the Chandler Travis Three-O, the Catbirds, the Chandler Travis Philharmonic, and the Incredible Casuals, in addition to his work with Rabbit Rabbit. Featuring seven previously unreleased songs, one radical rearrangement, and 11 tunes that span the breadth of the aformentioned Travis projects, Bocce & Bourbon is a vivid catalogue of two impressively storied careers in music.
Below you can stream "Air, Running Backwards", a tune by Travis' the Chandler Travis Three-O, which received a special new version for this compilation.
Travis explains more about the tune to PopMatters, "[We've] been doing this song for about 20 years, always loved it. Then, in the middle of mastering our new album Bocce & Bourbon -- and, in fact, after we'd mastered it with the original version -- [we] suddenly got this idea for a radical re-arrangement. Adding it delayed release about 5 months, but we love it, and have been playing it this way ever since. Especially great work from Sam Wood, Berke McKelvey, and John Clark on drums (Sam's recording debut with the Three-O!), keys, and string bass respectively, not to mention my missus, Rachel Jarvis, on background vox!"
Bocce & Bourbon: The Comfortable Songs of Chandler Travis & David Greenberger is out on 12 June via Iddy Biddy.
