Tosca – “Harry Dean (Mato Remix)” (audio) (Premiere)

The music of Tosca gets a dub reggae spin in a new remix by Mato of the track "Harry Dean".

Under the Tosca name, the duo of Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Hubert has long prided itself on a downtempo brand of electronic music. With their 2014 LP Outta Here, however, Tosca took on a more dance-oriented vibe, although that’s not to say the chill has left the music completely. Take Outta Here opener “Harry Dean”, for instance; although comparatively “dancier” to earlier Tosca tunes, it’s still leagues away from the popular variants of EDM at the present.

Just as they have done with previous LPs, Tosca has called upon numerous artists to remix Outta Here, with results that shine new light on the tracks while also maintaining their danceable sensibility. Mato is one such remixer, and his interpretation of “Harry Dean” is certainly one of the more intriguing ones on Shopsca: The Outta Here Versions.

Dorfmeister explains to PopMatters, “Mato is definitely one of our favourite remixers of the recent Tosca album. We just like the way he twists his beats in a modern dub reggae kind of style.”

Shopsca: The Outta Here Versions is out on 29 June via !K7.
